Learning Support

A Commitment to Every Student’s Success

At Lycée International de Houston (LIH), we believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and personally. Our Learning Support Program is designed to provide individualized assistance so students can thrive within a rigorous, multilingual, and internationally focused learning environment.

LIH is committed to supporting students through structured academic guidance, language support, and personalized interventions that respect each child’s unique learning profile.

Academic Support & Study Hall

Learning support at LIH includes Study Hall, academic tutoring, and language support in French or English for non-native speakers.
Our structured Study Hall Program allows students to:

  • Complete homework and prepare for assessments
  • Receive academic guidance during the school day
  • Improve organization and study skills
  • Reduce academic workload at home

Study Hall is supervised by qualified French or English teachers who assist students with assignments, time management, and academic planning.

An Inclusive Learning Environment

LIH is an inclusive school that supports:

  • Students with specific learning differences
  • Students experiencing academic challenges
  • Multilingual learners
  • Gifted and talented students who require enrichment

Our strength lies in knowing each child well and providing the appropriate balance of challenge and support so every student can progress with confidence.

Language Support Programs (ESL, FLE, IEP)

LIH welcomes students of all language backgrounds. Specialized language programs ensure successful integration into our bilingual and multilingual classrooms.

  • Preschool / Maternelle:
No prior French or English proficiency required
  • Grades 1–8:
Non-French-speaking students receive intensive French Language Enrichment (FLE) in small groups
  • Non-English-speaking Francophone students:
Receive Intensive English Program (IEP) support
  • High School: Students may choose between an English-based IB Program or a French-based Baccalauréat Program

These programs allow students to build language confidence while continuing academic progress.

Supporting Gifted and Talented Students

LIH recognizes that gifted and talented students also require thoughtful support. We collaborate with families and teachers to provide:

  • Academic enrichment
  • Advanced learning opportunities
  • Ongoing challenges within the daily curriculum

Our goal is to keep high-achieving students engaged, motivated, and progressing at an appropriate pace.

Partnering with Families

We believe strong collaboration between school and home is essential. The Learning Support team maintains open communication with families through:

  • Regular progress updates
  • Academic planning discussions
  • Resources to support learning at home

This partnership ensures consistency and clarity for students.

When Learning Support May Be Recommended

A student may benefit from additional support if academic progress is impacted by:

  • Specific learning difficulties (e.g., dyslexia)
  • Attention or comprehension challenges
  • Social or emotional factors
  • Underachievement relative to potential
  • Multiple school transitions
  • Gaps in prior education
  • Grade retention
