The Lycée International de Houston, LIH, was established in 2017 by passionate individuals from different cultural backgrounds and founders who recognized the need for a bilingual school in the Houston community. Their goal was to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-growing multicultural global society. As the sole accredited 18-month through 12th-grade bilingual school in Houston, the Lycée International de Houston offers a unique dual-language immersion program in both French and English. By combining the analytical thinking methods of the French Ministry of Education (AEFE) with the dynamic American Curriculum, the school remains dedicated to maintaining academic excellence. The Lycée International de Houston has obtained accreditations by esteemed organizations such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, the French Ministry of Education, and Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools (TAAPS). Job Description:
Lycée International de Houston (LIH) is seeking an energetic and motivated Spanish Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be a passionate educator who thrives in a multicultural environment, fosters students’ language acquisition and cultural understanding, and contributes to the broader school community. This position involves teaching Spanish across multiple grade levels, including IB Spanish (SL/HL) and/or AP Spanish, following the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, and preparing students to become global citizens. Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Spanish
- Experience teaching Spanish across multiple grade levels (K–12) in an independent, private, or college-preparatory school setting
- Experience teaching IB Spanish (SL/HL) and/or AP Spanish
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, writing, and listening)
- Strong knowledge of TEKS standards and advanced language curriculum planning
- Demonstrated proficiency integrating technology into language instruction
- Ability to manage multi-level classrooms with students of varying language proficiency
- Strong professional references attesting to instructional quality and student engagement
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Flexibility to support school life (extracurriculars, advising, language labs, etc.)
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
The Role at Lycée International de Houston
The Spanish Teacher is a multi-grade and planning-focused position responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging Spanish instruction while supporting curriculum development and program growth.
Instruction & Curriculum Planning
- Plan, implement, and assess Spanish instruction aligned with TEKS, across multiple proficiency levels within the same classroom
- Teach advanced courses, including IB Spanish (SL/HL) and/or AP Spanish, preparing students for external examinations
- Differentiate instruction for native and non-native speakers
- Foster language proficiency and cultural understanding through meaningful, interactive learning experiences
- Contribute to curriculum planning and vertical alignment across grade levels
Classroom Management & Student Engagement
- Create a structured, inclusive, and academically rigorous classroom environment
- Maintain effective classroom management to support student learning and safety
- Encourage active participation and student ownership of language learning
Collaboration & Community Engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen the Spanish program and share best practices
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and departmental planning
- Support school-wide events and initiatives that promote bilingualism and multiculturalism
Communication & Professional Responsibilities
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and language development
- Monitor and document student performance and growth
- Demonstrate high energy, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to student success
- Physically able to move throughout the classroom and monitor student behavior as needed
