The Lycée International de Houston, LIH, was established in 2017 by passionate individuals from different cultural backgrounds and founders who recognized the need for a bilingual school in the Houston community. Their goal was to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-growing multicultural global society. As the sole accredited 18-month through 12th-grade bilingual school in Houston, the Lycée International de Houston offers a unique dual-language immersion program in both French and English. By combining the analytical thinking methods of the French Ministry of Education (AEFE) with the dynamic American Curriculum, the school remains dedicated to maintaining academic excellence. The Lycée International de Houston has obtained accreditations by esteemed organizations such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, the French Ministry of Education, and Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools (TAAPS). Job Description
Lycée International de Houston is seeking a passionate and qualified English Language Arts Teacher for Middle and High School levels, specializing in IB (International Baccalaureate) and/or AP (Advanced Placement) courses for the 2026-2027 School Year. The ideal candidate will have expertise in English instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum, as well as the ability to prepare students for the rigor of IB and AP exams. Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, or a related field
- Minimum five years of middle or high school English teaching experience
- Experience teaching IB English (SL/HL) and/or AP English (Language and/or Literature)
- Strong knowledge of TEKS ELAR standards
- ESL certification or experience working with EAL students (preferred)
- Experience in an independent, private, or college-preparatory school setting
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency integrating instructional technology (e.g., Google Classroom, digital learning tools)
- Collaborative, adaptable, and positive approach within a multicultural environment
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
The Role at Lycée International de Houston
The English Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging instruction that prepares students for academic success in IB and AP programs while fostering a lifelong appreciation for literature and critical thinking.
Instruction & Curriculum
- Teach middle and high school English courses, including IB and/or AP levels, aligned with TEKS
- Prepare students for IB and AP examinations through analytical reading, academic writing, and critical discussion
- Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based lessons that promote creativity and collaboration
- Introduce diverse literary texts, authors, and genres to support global perspectives
Student Support & Classroom Environment
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse and EAL learners
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback on student writing and performance
- Maintain a structured, inclusive classroom that encourages discussion and intellectual curiosity
- Demonstrated proficiency with digital tools and platforms (learning management systems, electronic gradebooks, online instructional tools, and classroom technology)
Collaboration & Professional Engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum alignment and interdisciplinary initiatives
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
- Support school operations through supervision duties and extracurricular involvement as needed
Physical & Professional Expectations
- Ability to move throughout the classroom and actively engage with students
- Monitor student behavior, discipline, and academic progress
- Maintain professionalism, organization, and enthusiasm in all school responsibilities
