The Lycée International de Houston is committed to bilingual French and American education of the highest standard. Lycée International de Houston students become fluent in a second language in their very early years. In addition, bilingual children have an easier time learning additional languages. They not only speak, but they also write, read, and learn in that language as comfortably as they do in their primary language. Additionally, students are ready to learn and introduced to a third language in the first grade of their elementary school years. Giving them as many opportunities as possible for their future. An opportunity like this opens doors throughout their lifetime.
At Lycée International de Houston, students do not simply learn languages—they live them. Language immersion in the classroom, through inclusive programs, LIH provides an opportunity for children to learn a language like a native speaker. A comprehensive study on class size made by educational researchers Bruce Biddler and David Berliner in 2002 showed that the smaller the class size, the better the average student performs on academic achievement tests. The gains from smaller class sizes are stronger the longer a child is exposed to them. The Lycée International de Houston small class size allows faculty to individually help students’ weak areas and advance their strengths.
The Lycée International de Houston was built around open communication between parents and administration, and we make it a priority to involve parents in the community. From frequent parent-teacher meetings, social events such as parent café croissant and the international festival, and the participation of parent organization in fundraising initiatives, families become an integral part of our student’s education.
Faculty are both qualified and passionate about their subjects, often holding advanced degrees in their field. Within the tight-knit school community, students have close relationships with their teachers who commonly act as role models. In addition, small class sizes make faculty members more readily available for extra help or to further challenge individual students.

20% of our students receive some form of financial aid assistance. Maintaining socioeconomic diversity is a priority for LIH. Lycée International de Houston administers its own financial aid program for selected students based on need. Lycée International de Houston believes it is important to provide our bilingual education to all children admitted to the school, regardless of their financial status.
CULTURAL AND LANGUAGE DIVERSITY:
Students often speak 1 or 2 languages upon entering the school and graduate with fluency in at least 3 languages, with most fluent in 4 or 5 languages. All students begin studying a third language in First grade and carry it through Grade 12. Students also have the option of learning a fourth language in high school.

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
The Lycée International de Houston students meet all Texas high school curricular requirements and are awarded the Texas High School Diploma at the end of 12th grade.
THE OPTION INTERNATIONALE DU BACCALAUREATE (OIB) is a program of the French baccalaureate offering advanced-level studies in English and an integrated History-Geography program taught by French and American faculty. Please note this is not a separate diploma but a specialization within the bac.
THE FRANCO-AMERICAN BACCALAUREATE (FAB) Created by the French Ministry of Education in partnership with U.S. College Board, the BFA adds American Advanced Placement exams to French baccalaureate exams. Depending on their area of concentration, students will take courses and exams in AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP Micro- and Macro-economics, AP European History, or AP Biology.
THE FRENCH BACCALAUREATE is widely considered to be the international gold standard in measuring depth and breadth of knowledge, critical thinking, and overall academic achievement. The French baccalaureate is an extended exam period taking place at the end of 11th and 12th grades.
THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
The Lycée International de Houston offers to its students in 11th and 12th grades an international track with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The IB is an outstanding exam recognized by universities around the world.
The Lycée International de Houston is committed to provide support to students that enables them to achieve greater academic success. This help can be provided through academic tutoring, French, or English language support for non-native speakers.
The structured Study Hall is designed to help students use their time at school completing homework and studying for tests. A French or English teacher will help tutor, organize assignments, and ensure students use this time productively. This greatly reduces the amount of work that needs to be completed at home and provides students with additional help when needed.
Study Hall is available to all students from grades 1 to 12 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday each regular school day. This program is provided at no extra cost to parents.
The Lycée International de Houston’s French and English Language enrichment programs are language classes offered for student from Pk-12th grade to accelerate students’ language and literacy development. These classes give students extra help in reading, speaking, and listening, pronunciation, and more. FLE and ESL classes are schedule one or more days a week as needed. Parents and/or teacher can request students to attend language enrichment. This program is provided at no extra cost to parents.
The Lycée International de Houston’s Arabic class follows a communicative, task-based methodology, and we integrate the four language skills, with a focus on Speaking.
Our teaching approach helps students to learn and speak the language the natural way, via the Arabic script, rather than via the English transliteration. This program is provided at no extra cost to parents.
