Admissions Policy

 

The Lycée International de Houston is committed to enrolling motivated students who demonstrate a keen interest in multilingualism, academic excellence, and personal growth. We welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds, talents, and interests, fostering an international community that values diversity and inclusivity. 

Admission to the Lycée International de Houston is selective and not guaranteed, as it is an independent school. Families must adhere to the  application process. Admission of students is determined by the requirements specified below and the limited availability of openings.

 

Criteria for Admission: 

Aptitude and Achievement: 

  • We assess students’ cognitive abilities and academic performance through previous school records and achievement tests. 
  • Students should demonstrate strong potential for academic success and a willingness to embrace the school’s rigorous curriculum. The evaluation allows us to get a better understanding of the student through their educational progress, strengths, and areas of improvement, allowing us to offer them an individualized learning experience. 

Character and Personal Qualities: 

  • We assess students’ character, values, and interpersonal skills through teacher recommendations, student interviews, parent interviews or group visits. 
  • Applicants should demonstrate integrity, resilience, and the ability to positively contribute to our school community. 

Multilingual Proficiency: 

  • A key component of our school is the emphasis on multilingual education. Applicants should have a strong interest in learning and using multiple languages. 
  • Proficiency in one or more languages other than the primary language of instruction is highly valued. 

Parental Involvement and Support: 

  • We believe that parents play a crucial role in their child’s education. We seek families who are globally minded, uphold strong values, and are committed to actively supporting the school’s mission and vision. 
  • Parents should be willing to participate in school activities and collaborate with teachers and staff to support their child’s success. 

 

Application Process: 

Application Form: 

  • Complete and submit the application form online. 

Required Documents: 

  • Submit basic information such as picture, birth certificate/ passport, and immunization records. Previous school report cards and standardized test scores should also be submitted depending on the grade level. 
  • Teacher recommendations highlight the student’s academic performance, character, and potential for success at our school. This allows us to determine if the student will be a good fit for our school. 

Interviews and Group Visits: 

  • Interviews allow us to assess student’s personal interests, communication skills, and feedback giving us a better insight of the applicant. An interview or a group visit will be scheduled to assess the student’s interpersonal skills, values, and overall fit for our school community. 

Review and Decision: 

  • The Admissions Committee will review all applications based on the outlined criteria and make decisions accordingly. 
  • Families will be notified of the admission decision and provided with next steps for enrollment. 

Priority is given to the children of LIH employees, recognizing the contributions and dedication of our staff.  

Applicants with siblings currently enrolled or concurrently applying to LIH also receive special attention, as we value family connections and continuity within our community. 

We consider applications from children whose parents are being relocated to Houston by corporations recognized by LIH. This ensures that families undergoing significant transitions receive support and stability.
