The Lycée International de Houston, LIH, was established in 2017 by passionate individuals from different cultural backgrounds and founders who recognized the need for a bilingual school in the Houston community. Their goal was to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-growing multicultural global society. As the sole accredited 18-month through 12th-grade bilingual school in Houston, the Lycée International de Houston offers a unique dual-language immersion program in both French and English. By combining the analytical thinking methods of the French Ministry of Education (AEFE) with the dynamic American Curriculum, the school remains dedicated to maintaining academic excellence. The Lycée International de Houston has obtained accreditations by esteemed organizations such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, the French Ministry of Education, and Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools (TAAPS). Additionally, our school is affiliated with the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE).

Job Description

Lycée International de Houston is seeking a passionate and qualified English Language Arts Teacher for Middle and High School levels, specializing in IB (International Baccalaureate) and/or AP (Advanced Placement) courses for the 2025-2026 School Year. The ideal candidate will have expertise in English instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum, as well as the ability to prepare students for the rigor of IB and AP exams. Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree (preferred) or bachelor’s degree in English, literature, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle or high school English.
  • Experience teaching IB English (SL/HL) and/or AP English (Language and Composition, Literature and Composition).
  • Strong understanding of the TEKS curriculum for English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR).
  • ESL Certification or experience working with EAL (English as an Additional Language) students (preferred).
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience teaching children, particularly in an independent, private, college preparatory school setting.
  • Positivity, open-mindedness, and adaptability to a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency with integrating technology into the classroom (e.g., Google Classroom, and educational apps).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Legal work authorization in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle and high school English Language Arts courses, including advanced-level IB and/or AP classes, ensuring alignment with TEKS standards.
  • Prepare students for IB and AP exams through instruction that builds analytical reading, critical thinking, and effective writing skills.
  • Develop and implement dynamic lesson plans that promote inquiry, collaboration, and creativity.
  • Foster a love for literature by introducing students to diverse texts, authors, and genres while aligning with curriculum standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including EAL and academically diverse students.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on student writing and performance, encouraging continuous improvement.
  • Integrate technology into instruction to enhance student learning, using tools like online discussion boards, literary analysis platforms, and e-learning resources.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages thoughtful discussions, active participation, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, participate in interdisciplinary projects, and support school-wide initiatives.
  • Stay informed about updates to the IB and AP English programs and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in school events and activities, such as open houses, parent-teacher conferences, student exhibitions, and literary festivals.
  • Take on additional responsibilities, such as carpool duty, lunch/recess supervision, and after-school tutoring or study hall.
  • Attend and contribute to faculty, department, and subject meetings as scheduled by the Head of School.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically capable of moving about the classroom to engage with students and facilitate both small and large group instruction.
  • Able to monitor student behavior, discipline, and progress effectively.
  • Active engagement in all academic and extracurricular duties
